Altec Expansion

The Altec plant, in Creedmoor, NC has undergone much growth in the last few years. CSC has worked on both smaller rennovations as well as their larger additions. The largest of which is a 2023 addition of a long clear-span facility for bucket truck manufacturing. This project involved the expansion of the existing manufacturing facility, introducing a substantial 177,000 sqft addition. Tasked with the structural design of this expansion, the project faced unique challenges, notably the incorporation of large long trusses spanning 140-200 feet and a conveyor belt system supported from the roof. The conveyor belt represents an unsusal challenge with a heavy load of approximately 1 million pounds and repetitive lading requiring cycle fatigue calculations. In a departure from the typical dichotomy of short and heavy or long and light trusses, the team designed custom crafted trusses with dimensions of approximately 10 feet in depth. The team ensured the design would meet all of these requirements, all while ensuring the ongoing operations of the facility. A phased approach was adopted for the project underscoring the commitment to maintain operational continuity throughout this ambitious expansion.
